After graduating from Texas A&M in 2010, Coach Segrest came to San Antonio and began to coach club swimming at Northside's Alamo Area Aquatic Association in 2011. At AAAA, he coached two high school teams, one advanced and one for novices, and an age group team for 10-14 year old advanced swimmers.
In 2013, he accepted a position at Holmes HS as their swimming and water polo coach. He remained at Holmes HS for eight years, earning two district coach of the year titles in 2017 and 2019. For three years, from 2017-2019, he started and operated the Block's Crocs Summer League team out of the George Block Aquatic Center, accepting athletes from anywhere in the Northside school district. His summer league placed first in the league in 2018 at the Northside Summer League Championship meet.
In 2021, Coach Segrest transferred to Clark HS. This season, he was named Region VII Male Coach of the Year.
In the Fall of 2022, Water Polo became an official UIL Sport and Clark HS added a competitive team for both men and women. Coach Segrest coached both swimming and water polo until the Fall of 2024, when Clark hired a second coach to take over swimming.
As the head water polo coach at Clark HS, he has been named District Coach of the Year twice, once for his men's team in 2023 and once for his women's team in 2025.
Coach Segrest has been married for eleven years to his wife Samantha, a UTSA Graduate and former swim instructor. They had their first child, Thomas, in June of 2020 and there second child, Bennett, in April of 2023.
